It's Baby Signing Time!!!

For months, the babies have been watching "Baby Signing Time." They have really enjoyed the catchy songs and colorful images but now are having even more fun with it because they are starting to do the signs!

Krista caught on first and started doing the sign for baby during the musical introduction. Kiera soon followed big sister's lead. Ever since then, as soon as they hear the DVD starting up, they start rocking their arms back and forth. It's so cute!

Here's a clip of them watching the DVD with Krista signing baby. I've yet to capture Kiera doing a sign on film but will definitely post it once I get it:

Now the girls are doing a variety of signs and not only while watching the video but throughout the day to communicate with us! In addition to baby, they can consistently sign milk, more, all done, water, mommy and most recently banana. Jamison, although he hasn't actually made any of the signs yet, is still very interested and watches carefully. I don't think it will be too long before he catches on as well.

It's so neat to see them sign and I'm sure it will make things a lot easier for them to communicate while they are still developing their oral language. The only downside is that the songs are getting stuck in our heads. Even my dad, who is over here almost daily, said he catches himself singing the songs at work in between phone calls. Too funny! Now we're starting to watch Volume 2 and we'll have a whole new slew of songs to get hooked on, ha!

Will baby signing not deter them from speaking. I have heard that it helps with them to communicate but that they speak at a later age.
